Just a hop, skip and jump away from Changi Airport is the East area of Singapore. Those with kids in tow can rejoice—whether it’s outdoor parks or indoor cafés, there’s plenty here to keep the whole brood entertained.

Danny Santos

You’ll soon hear your kids yelling “Can we fix it?” and “Yes, we can!” at this outdoor attraction, which allows them to play ‘Bob the Builder’—they get to operate a life-sized excavator and use it to pick up bricks and metal bottles from a sandpit. At another station on-site, the children can even wield a ‘wrecking ball’. Located at Raintree Cove along East Coast Parkway, this six-classroom-big area is right beside East Coast Prawning, so the whole clan can try their hand at fishing for some crustaceans after the excavation.

Diggersite is situated near Carpark C3/C4 along East Coast Parkway. Raintree Cove, 1020 East Coast Parkway #01-04, Singapore 449878.

The name of this café says it all. While the grown-ups eat—pick from pastas, burgers and Thai-inspired dishes—the kids can ‘play’ at a well-stocked craft corner. The young ones will be spoilt for choice with the rainbow variety of markers, buttons, paper plates, thread, stickers, ribbons and more. For the craft-challenged, there are books that’ll provide step-by-step instructions—your kids will create impressive puppets in no time. The café’s retro interior looks good on photos too, so remember to snap away at the whimsical decor which includes vintage typewriters, old-school toys and even local childhood snacks.

PA Water-Venture (Pasir Ris Park)

Here, take a bus to PA Water-Venture which offers adventurous families a slew of water sports to try. Try kayaking or laser sailing on the seas (if you’re qualified), or combat the heights with abseiling and sport climbing. Now, see if you can spot those mudskippers or mud crabs.
