Organised by the Singapore Tourism Board, this year’s awards ceremony recognised integrated resort Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre as the Best Business Event Venue for the third consecutive year. The venue is set to receive the Exceptional Achievement award next year – a prestigious distinction reserved only for those who have won thrice in a row.

So, what’s the secret to their success as a leading MICE venue for local and international events?

The Sands Expo and Convention Centre is known for its versatility in customising and tailoring its extensive space for various events, be they world-class receptions, trade shows of varying sizes, lavish gala receptions with thousands of guests, or cosy meetings for smaller groups.

Helping the venue clinch the award was its stellar effort in successfully hosting the 2016 Flight Centre Global Gathering for 3,300 attendees from 14 to 16 July. This annual event was held to reward its top achievers, and they celebrated over a “Fast & Furious” themed weekend.

Flight Centre’s various meetings were held at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, which was praised for going the extra mile to work with the group’s organisers in incorporating an effective Corporate Social Responsibility strategy into its programmes, as well as incorporating unique venues, such as the stunning Sands Skypark, for their programme activities.

Mike Lee, vice-president of sales, Marina Bay Sands, said: “This is a testament of our ongoing commitment to create unmatched meeting experiences. We will continue to build up our team and service offerings, in order to reach more milestones in the years to come.”

Building on its success with a bigger line-up of events for the rest of the year, MBS will host the 10th instalment of the Singapore International Energy Week slated for October, as well as ITB Asia, Asia’s leading travel trade show, which is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Also on the honour roll at the Singapore Tourism Awards is UBM SES, one of the pioneers in the trade events exhibition industry. The Best Exhibition Organiser is acknowledged for organising an impressive showing for Food & Hotel Asia (FHA) 2016, the region’s leading food and hospitality trade show, at the Singapore Expo.

With a whopping 3,198 exhibitors from over 70 countries, last year’s remarkable FHA event also featured several firsts, including the region’s debut of international wine and spirits trade fair ProWine ASIA, held in collaboration with Messe Düsseldorf Asia, and the Asia-Pacific selections of famed biennial world chef championships Bocuse d’Or.

Recognised for its ability to keep both visitors and exhibitors satisfied with plenty of opportunities for dynamic networking and business growth, UBM SES promises that FHA will be an even grander affair next year.

Ting Siew Mui, UBM SES’ project director, said “We are very proud of the show’s scale and attribute this win to our hardworking team. Next year, we will be expanding the show to two venues – taking over Singapore Expo and Suntec.”
