From 25 to 29 July 2016, the Singapore Tourism Board hosted members from the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) on their business mission to Singapore. SISO is dedicated to meeting the needs of the for-profit show organiser through networking, the exchange of ideas and experiences, and the ability to learn from each other in a non-competitive and candid environment.

The itinerary was specially designed to introduce these C-level executives to Singapore's unique attractions and offerings that they can consider when launching their trade exhibitions and conferences. The itinerary ranged from visits to Singapore’s top MICE venues to a tour of Singapore’s best tourist sites.

“I was very impressed with the city as a destination, incredibly clean and well developed, with everything you can ask for as an organiser. Easy to get to, and really in the heart of Asia,” said Mr David Audrain, Executive Director of SISO.

Members were taken on a tour of Singapore’s top MICE venues including Suntec Singapore, Resorts WorldTM Sentosa and Singapore EXPO, where they not only explored Singapore’s MICE industry and exhibition landscape, but also had the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with different MICE organisers.

SISO members were also brought to the National Gallery Singapore and the Singapore City Gallery, where they were given a glimpse into the city-state’s transformation journey. In between, the group had a chance to meet with industry players as well as network with Singapore’s Exhibition and Conference Organisers.

As part of their business mission to Singapore, SISO members were invited to attend the Singapore MICE forum where Mr Audrain was a panelist on the Global Industry Thought Leaders Panel.

SISO members had nothing but praise for the attractions and offerings that they had experienced during the trip, with everyone in agreement that four days was not nearly enough to explore all that Singapore has to offer.

Mr Audrain said: “I had heard from colleagues that Singapore was a great destination and host for business events, so my expectation was high, but even that high expectation was exceeded by the reality I found in my first visit to Singapore. Singapore truly is an extremely well equipped and excellently run location for business meetings and events, with excellent venues, great hotels, and wonderful food!”
