If you’re looking to work up a sweat and push your limits, be sure to sign up for one of Singapore’s most popular races—the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM).

Held in the first week of December every year, SCSM’s inaugural race kicked off in 1982. Since then, it has consistently attracted thousands of fitness fans of all ages. The oldest runner to participate in 2018’s marathon was 86, while the youngest participant was 4 months old.

As testament to the SCSM’s immense popularity and widespread appeal, the most recent event attracted 50,000 fitness enthusiasts from 127 countries pushing their own limits in the various categories.

In 2018, the race also introduced a brand new, two-day format that included a five-kilometre race for new runners and a revamped Kids Dash at Resorts World™ Sentosa.

Marathon Category

The main event at the SCSM, this formidable route comes up to a whopping 42.195 kilometres in length. Kick-off locations for each year’s event vary, but the route traditionally loops around the heart of the city, through diverse precincts around the island. 2018’s route saw runners racing through the scenic Marina Bay and the iconic colonial buildings of the Civic District

Half Marathon Category

An exciting challenge in its own right, the half marathon is a great stepping stone for running enthusiasts looking to build up the confidence needed to embark on a full marathon.

Five- and 10-Kilometre Runs

5, 10 kilometres

The five- and 10-kilometre categories are perfect for cardio bunnies, beginner runners and those looking to get active. Enjoy the buzz and festivities, without having to commit to high-intensity conditioning.

Toyota Ekiden
Total length:
42.195 kilometres

A team relay for five participants, the Toyota Ekiden category is a great way to build camaraderie through physical challenges. Each runner on participating teams will cover approximately 8.4 kilometres, pitting themselves against 100 other challengers. 

Kids Dash
Total length:
600 metres

Parents looking to start their little daredevils young on the fitness track should sign them up for the Kids Dash. 2018’s edition took place amidst the thrills and spills of Resorts World™ Sentosa, spanning zones like the dinosaur-themed Lost World and the fairytale wonderland of Far Far Away that featured in the Shrek movie series.
