Catch the top nations in rugby square off against each other at the National Stadium, and immerse yourself in the thrills, music and family activities that surround the colourful festivities.
As the only Southeast Asian stop on the 10-leg HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the Singapore edition saw rugby lovers congregating at the National Stadium to cheer their hearts out for their favourite teams.
The two-day event showcased 45 intense matches in a scintillating, seven-a-side format. Some 16 top rugby nations were pitted against each other, including 12-time Series champion and rugby titans New Zealand.
Rugby fans got to see powerhouse Fiji edging out Australia in a nail-biting scrum, and coming back from a 1-point deficit in stoppage time to clinch the championship 28-22.
The win marked Fiji’s fourth event title out of eight in this year’s series, and concluded a riveting gauntlet of matches, with England edging past South Africa in a hard-fought, 26-24 bronze-medal match-up.
Besides being treated to bone-crunching tackles and lightning runs down the pitch, the spectators soaked in the raucous atmosphere at the National Stadium, with costumed fans, deafening cheers and heartfelt singalongs.
As part of the entertainment, rugby fans rocked out to great music, played a variety of rugby-themed games, spent family time at the 20,000 feet Funzone, and got up close and personal with the legends of the sport during meet–and-greet sessions.
The energy overflowed into Music After Sevens, the official after-party held at Clarke Quay, the vibrant entertainment hotspot by the historic Singapore River. Over three evenings, fans partook in food, drink and music performances by chart-topping acts.
Rugby fans can keep their eye out for more thrilling action next year, when The HSBC World Rugby Seven Series returns to Singapore – its exclusive Southeast Asia home – in April 2019 for its 4th year.
