Romantic Locales

1. St John’s Island

Just 30 minutes south of Singapore lies the clear waters and pristine beaches of St John’s Island. A day trip there promises serene landscapes to explore and the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Lovers can look forward to strolling through the island’s nature trails and mangroves, or set up a picnic by the beach to the lulling sound of the waves, while enjoying heart-to-heart conversations.

Pro Tip: Do bring your own food and water to the island, as there are no food vendors on St John’s Island.

Getting there: Take the ferry from Marina South Pier. First Ferry from Marina South Pier: 10am on weekdays, 9am on weekends.

2. Pulau Ubin

Escape the bustle of the city with your partner on the island sanctuary of Pulau Ubin.

The perfect place for nature-loving couples to unwind, this island is home to diverse landscapes to explore, from old kampongs (villages) and granite quarries to lush tropical forests and abundant wildlife.

Couples with a mutual love for exploration should rent a tandem bicycle and discover the island together— the numerous cycling trails around Pulau Ubin lend themselves to adventures off the beaten path.

Do remember to pack sunscreen if you’re setting aside a full day to explore the island’s myriad charms. Gentlemen may want to bring a small umbrella to shield their significant others from the sun (and show off their chivalrous side).

Getting there: Take a ten-minute bumboat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal (S$3 for a one-way trip).

3. Seletar Aerospace Park

Another hidden gem for an idyllic escape, Seletar Aerospace Park houses restaurants flanked by lush greenery, making it the perfect spot for a quiet getaway.

This locale was once home to an Ex-British Royal Air Force Station—a fact that you may want to mention to impress your date. The space is home to 32 colonial bungalows, making it a great area to stroll through for history buffs with an interest in 19th century history.

Diehard romantics looking to travel back in time can visit The Summer House Dining Room, a colonial-themed restaurant perched on the second floor of one of these bungalows. Alternatively, you may want to book a seat at the Summerhouse Garden Domes—set amidst lush greenery, these romantic spaces are ideal for a romantic evening beneath the stars

Alternatively, pay a visit to Wheeler’s Estate for a more laid-back date night. Located on an open lawn and illuminated by fairy lights after dark, this enchanting locale offers opportunities for both picnicking and live music.

4. Henderson Waves

Nothing spells romance more than the soaring sights atop Henderson Waves—an iconic pedestrian bridge suspended 36 meters above the ground.

Illuminated with dim ambient light and nestled within Singapore’s forest greenery, this locale is best visited at dusk, with its bird’s eye view of our sun-drenched city scape.

When you’re done marvelling at the sunset, take a 10 min walk to Faber Peak and surprise your partner with an alfresco dinner overlooking Harbourfront’s skyline at restaurants like Dusk or Arbora.

Getting there: Take the MRT to Redhill, then Bus 145 for 7 Stops (10mins) to ‘Bef Telok Blangah Hts’. You’ll see a stairway leading up to Henderson Waves.

Home to one of the best sunset spots in Singapore, Marina Barrage is perfect for lovebirds to unwind after a day of shopping and indulging in the sights of our city centre.

Overlooking the Marina Bay skyline and just a short jaunt away from both Marina Bay Sands® and Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, this beautiful space offers ample opportunity to enjoy kite-flying, games of frisbee and bouts of people-watching.

6. Gardens by the Bay

You could buy a bouquet of flowers for your sweetheart, but we believe that a visit to Gardens by the Bay is an equally romantic alternative. Spread across 249 acres, this urban garden space is a medley of stunning architecture and beautiful flora.

We recommend walking arm-in-arm through the Flower Dome, where you’ll be able to explore the world’s largest glass greenhouse, while immersing yourselves in the Mediterranean flowers on display. You may not be able to pluck the blossoms, but the memories won’t wither and are bound to last a lifetime.

If you’re visiting in the evening, be sure to catch the Supertree Light Show—a dazzling medley of light and sound—or stroll along the boardwalk of the Dragonfly Lake.
