            Thaipusam

            1 February 2026

With its colourful traditions, the annual Hindu festival, Thaipusam, often brings traffic in Singapore to a standstill—and with good reason.

            How We Celebrate

Experience the vibrant and awe-inspiring Thaipusam festival, where the Hindu community celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Witness devotees on a spiritual journey, carrying intricately decorated kavadis — ceremonial devices used for religious self mortification in Hinduism — as acts of penance and gratitude.

Be captivated by the colourful processions, vibrant music, and the incredible display of faith as devotees pierce their bodies with hooks and skewers. Immerse yourself in this unique cultural experience, where tradition, devotion, and celebration gather to create an unforgettable Thaipusam in Singapore.

            The 'Kavadis' at Thaipusam Procession

            Did You Know?

Road lanes are closed to traffic on Thaipusam between Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Serangoon Road and Sri Thendayuthapani Temple at Tank Road, for the procession.

Bystanders can view the kavadis up close, which literally mean ‘sacrifice at every step’ in Tamil. Kavadis can weigh up to 40 kilogrammes and reach a height of four metres.
