Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Mr S Iswaran, officially launched the Conference Ambassador Programme on December 7th at an event attended by close to 200 inaugural Conference Ambassadors. Following the launch, jazz musicians and cultural dance performers entertained guests at a dinner served alfresco on the historic Cavenagh Bridge.

The Conference Ambassador Programme allows the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau (a group of the Singapore Tourism Board) to further enhance Singapore’s global leadership in hosting international conventions. Members can share each others’ experiences and tap into the talent and expertise of key professionals and industry specialists through training, support, advice and networking.

The aim is to recruit up to 1,000 non-professional conference organisers of international events by the end of 2008. Conference Ambassadors will typically be members of international associations; experts and key opinion leaders in their respective fields; and influential within their associations when it comes to deciding on the venue for future conferences.

Members of the Conference Ambassador Programme can expect close cooperation with industry partners and the SECB to ensure they have all the resources necessary for a successful event in Singapore. Together, these joint efforts will position Singapore as the top convention city in Asia and leading BTMICE destination in the world.
