The MaxiCab airport shuttle service has wheelchair accessible features and offers a scheduled service with flexible routing to almost all hotels within the city (excluding hotels on Sentosa and Le Meridien Changi). Alighting points are flexible and any destination within the Central Business District is catered to including MRT stations. The six-seater MaxiCab also has luggage room. The shuttle operates from 0900 hrs to 2300 hrs at frequencies of 30 minutes during off peak hours (0900 hrs to 1800 hrs) and 15 minutes during peak hours (1800 hrs to 2300 hrs). Tickets cost SGD 7 for adults and SGD 5 for children. Bookings are made at the airport shuttle counters and payment made to the MaxiCab driver. Access Singapore - the physically disabled person's guide to accessible places - is published by the National Council of Social Service. The guide book provides a list of public places and buildings that are accessible to people with disabilities and captures the main areas in Singapore that the general public would frequent. All MRT train stations have been upgraded to be wheelchair-friendly, with access ramps, passenger lifts, wider fare gates and friendly customer service officers.
SBS Transit operates several services with wheelchair-accessible buses (WABs). These low-floor double-decker superbuses are equipped with access ramps and wider gangways . WAB captains are trained to operate the access ramp and to help passengers in wheelchairs.
SMRT (tel 6555 8888), Comfort (tel 6552 2828) and CityCab (tel 6452 5252) operate taxis for wheelchair-bound customers. Transport services are provided by the Handicaps Welfare Association (HWA) as well, with specially trained taxi drivers. Advance booking is required.
Wheelchairs are also available for rent from the HWA (16 Whampoa Drive, Singapore 327725; tel 6254 3006; fax 6253 7375).
