The Singapore Tourism Awards is an annual celebration that recognises individuals and organisations in Singapore’s tourism sector for delivering outstanding experiences and demonstrating enterprise excellence. Previously known as the Singapore Experience Awards, the 2016 edition was held on 5 October 2016 at The Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore and was graced by President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam. Some 29 individuals and organisations were lauded at the gala event.
Mr Lionel Yeo, Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, said, “This year, we have repositioned our Awards to recognise the many different elements that need to come together for Singapore to remain competitive and compelling as a top destination. While Singapore Tourism Awards will continue to raise the bar in tourism experience creation, we also aim to inspire the tourism industry in pursuing enterprise excellence, which is key to achieving quality tourism growth in the long run.”
Seven categories were dedicated to MICE and business events under the Experience Excellence (MICE) award category.
In particular, Mr Charlie Chan, Lions Clubs International Director (2014-2016), and Mr Henre Tan, past Lions Clubs International District Governor (2007 – 2008), were recognised as Best Business Event Champion. They both played principal roles in securing hosting rights for the 103rd Lions Clubs International Convention in 2020. It is the first time the event will be hosted in Singapore, and has the distinction of being the largest association convention to be held here.
Kingsmen Exhibits continued its winning streak with its third consecutive win for Best Business Event Service Provider for its execution of Gastech Conference & Exhibition 2015. It was commended for its ‘go-getter’ attitude, innovative approach to 3D rendering as well as its contributions to sustainability. Kingsmen Exhibits was previously awarded the same accolade in 2015 and 2014 for BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global and Tax Free World Association Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference 2013 respectively.
Commenting on the win, Mr Anthony Chong, Group Managing Director, Kingsmen Exhibits, said, “We are deeply honoured to be recognised by Singapore’s MICE industry with this accolade for the third year running. This award is a testament to our ethos of providing quality service throughout the past 40 years. We will continue to innovate and strive to be the partner of choice for international events that place Singapore on the world map.”
Taking home the title of Best Association Conference Organiser was the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) for the WCPT World Congress 2015, which saw the participation of more than 4,100 participants from 114 countries, while Tax Free World Association (TFWA) was awarded Best Exhibition Organiser for their Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference 2015, with a nod to their impressive levels of engagement and attention.
Koelnmesse Pte Ltd clinched the title of Best Trade Conference Organiser for EmTech Singapore 2015. Co-organised with MIT Technology Review, EmTech Singapore 2015 was recognised for its good efforts in implementing sustainable practices as well as the strong level of content in the exciting field of breakthrough technologies, thereby attracting renowned speakers and delegates to the conference.
With a strong slate of fellow contenders such as Resorts WorldTM Sentosa's S.E.A Aquarium TM, Suntec Singapore, and The Ritz-Carlton, it was no mean feat that Marina Bay Sands® bagged the title of Best Business Event Venue, thanks in large part to its 360-degreee service approach themed ‘Client, Partner, Friend’. The venue was also crowned Best Meeting Incentive Organiser, together with Forever Living Products, for the Forever Living Global Rally 2015, which welcomed 7,000 delegates in April last year.
“The appeal of Marina Bay Sands® extends beyond our stunning infrastructure and the multi-dimensional services we offer. Rather, our strongest asset lies in the dynamism and passion displayed by our staff, working hand-in-hand with our clients to co-create successful events. This allows us to retain repeat businesses, and attract new ones, over the past few years. We will build on this momentum, and continue to build on our collective success,” said Mr Benny Zin, Chief Operating Officer of Marina Bay Sands®.
