3rd Edition of PCMA Meetings Forum in Singapore
The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Meetings Forum was back for its third edition from 26 to 27 July 2016. Held at the Sands Expo® & Convention Centre, the two-day event gathered meeting industry leaders from Asia Pacific for an intensive and engaging forum in Singapore. Association executives, meeting planners and suppliers based in the Asia Pacific took the opportunity to network with peers as well as to discuss and learn from the best practices in conference management.
Impressive lineup of speakers
The 2016 forum showcased high-profile speakers from established organisations who generously shared their wealth of experience on topics such as association management trends, marketing & branding, experience design, sponsorship and revenue streams.
Delegates had the opportunity to hear from notable North American and European Association Leaders including Mr. Oscar Cerezales, Chief Operating Officer (Asia Pacific) of MCI Group, Mr. Robert DeLuca, Vice President of ConferenceDirect, and Ms. Gwynn Breckenridge, Director of Meetings of International Council of Ophthalmology.
The forum also presented plenty of opportunities for delegates to learn and discuss issues faced by peers through small work group discussions and case study scenarios designed to inspire participants to continue organising impactful meetings in the future.
PCMA Asia-Pacific Scholarship
The 2016 forum also marked the launch of the inaugural PCMA Asia Pacific Scholarship created by PCMA and the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau (SECB). A total of 20 association executives had their trip to the two-day PCMA Meetings Forum funded with the support of like-minded partners such as Korea Tourism Organisation; Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau and Tourism New Zealand.
Explaining the inspiration behind the scholarship, Mr. Sherrif Karamat, COO of PCMA, said, “We want to create an educational and networking environment for the Forum that includes viewpoints from all over the region. We believe the scholarship will enable greater participation which will in turn lead to more fruitful discussions and greater collaboration. Professional development is critical for an individual’s growth, therefore we want to increase their ability to attend by supporting the costs, as both PCMA and SECB believe in education to advance the industry.”
Ms Jeannie Lim, Executive Director for Conventions, Meetings and Incentive Travel, SECB, said, “We felt that it was timely to create this scholarship to further encourage education and develop promising industry professionals in the region. This will help boost capabilities in the Asia Pacific meetings industry over time.”
Partnering PCMA for industry development
The PCMA Meetings Forum is part of the SECB’s partnership with PCMA in developing local and regional capabilities for meetings management.
Since 2012, annual study missions and exchange trips have been conducted to further this cause. These include participation at PCMA platforms such as PCMA Convening Leaders, PCMA Global Professionals, as well as the organisation of PCMA Meetings Forum in Singapore.
