Celebrate All Things Design
The fourth Singapore Design Week (SDW) will once again be held in Singapore, a UNESCO Creative City of Design, from 3 to 12 March 2017.
Organised by DesignSingapore Council (Dsg), the premier international design festival aims to raise awareness of good design, deepen the appreciation and understanding of design innovation and encourage the use of design for innovation and productivity. Through this platform, Dsg also hopes to enhance the synergy among design partners and in turn boost Singapore’s profile as a global city for design.
This fourth edition will feature local and international design trade shows, conferences, showcases, exhibitions and workshops that span various design disciplines. Many of the activities will take place at the National Design Centre, the hub of SDW, and these activities will provide opportunities for business collaboration and knowledge exchange.
International Furniture Fair Singapore
The International Furniture Fair Singapore (IFFS) 2017, Asia's premier furniture and furnishing tradeshow and a key business platform of SDW, will be held from 9 to 12 March at the Singapore EXPO. Along with its co-located events, the 34th ASEAN Furniture Show (AFS) and the inaugural Nook Asia, the shows will continue to celebrate design, invoke inspiration, and facilitate business discussions, with the aim of promoting trade and growth for the industry.
Attendees can expect to see collections presented by a comprehensive portfolio of first-rate exhibitors from all over the world and to be exposed to more design-centric elements across the show floor. Through various showcases and thematic installations, IFFS’ design-rich environment will inspire greater ideas and encourage more collaboration.
IFFS will welcome the European Union Pavilion to the inaugural Nook Asia event. Organised in partnership with the European Union Gateway Business Avenues, a business support programme for Europe-based SMEs to establish business collaborations through business matchmaking and support services, the pavilion is expected to house 50 design & interior companies from 28 different EU countries.
Also new are the Brand Franchise Pavilion devoted to furniture and furnishing franchisors and caters specially to brands that are exploring international franchise expansion, as well as the Upholstery Pavilion housing a curated line-up of exhibitors with upholstery offerings.
SingaPlural 2017, the annual anchor event of SDW, will bring about new perspectives with a refreshing take on design and how it influences daily lives. It also highlights the best design elements from the multi-faceted creative spectrum.
Themed “Stories – A New Perspective,” SingaPlural 2017 aims to give visitors a glimpse into the creative minds of designers while offering visitors a visual treat as they journey through the various narratives and eye-catching displays on show.
The 2017 SingaPlural will feature new or existing design projects that were created from collaborations between designer and brand/producer. International clothing brand UNIQLO is teaming up with local designers Fizah and Ando from Machinest and Roots to feature UNIQLO’s AIRism clothing line in a series of mini games and installations. There will also be 'pop-ups’ of curated retail spaces brought to life by appointed designers across creative disciplines to display new products. SingaPlural will also curate platforms to engage a larger audience in conversation through exhibits with the designers.
