Hari Raya Haji

7 June 2025
Sultan Mosque, 3 Muscat St
198833, Singapore

Muslims in Singapore remember their faith with prayer and reflection during Hari Raya Haji, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.

How We Celebrate

Hari Raya Haji commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Muslims don their finest attire, flock to mosques for prayers, and partake in the sacred 'korban' ritual. Sacrificing animals symbolizes Ibrahim's obedience, with the meat shared among contributors, loved ones, and those in need.

This festival highlights compassion, generosity, and spiritual fulfillment, prioritizing these values over material indulgence. Social visits and shared meals further strengthen the bonds of community.

Where to Go

During the Hari Raya Haji period, the faithful congregate at the various mosques dressed in their finest. Check out some of these mosques for a glimpse of this procession.

This mosque boasts an unusual minaret—distinctive not only because of its European design but because it leans about six degrees off centre.

Notable for its eclectic architecture - the mosque boasts a South Indian entrance, Chinese tiles and Tuscan columns.

Muslim Pilgrimage 'Mecca'

Did You Know?

Apart from traditions like fasting and prayers, Hari Raya Haji also marks the end of 'hajj', the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca.

This journey traces the steps of the Prophet Muhammad, and every able-bodied Muslim with the financial means is expected to complete it at least once in his or her lifetime
