Shopping’s not the only thing to busy yourself with at Orchard, the neighbourhood is also a popular culinary destination. Here, you’ll find a range of Michelin-recognised restaurants — from hidden sushi bars to restaurants of white-tablecloth elegance — all just a hop and a skip away from one another.

Les Amis

Find a dose of contemporary French fine dining in the heart of Orchard Road with Les Amis at Shaw Centre. Helmed by executive chef Sebastien Lepinoy. Les Amis has been a stalwart of the fine dining scene in Singapore since before the recent wave of culinary culture. Over the years, Les Amis has also seen the likes of local chef superstars Justin Quek, Ignatius Chan and Janice Wong grace their kitchens.

Les Amis is located at #01-16 Shaw Centre, 1 Scotts Road.

Sushi Ichi

Hailing from Ginza, Japan’s famous shopping district, and now finding its new home in Orchard Road, is Sushi Ichi, a sushi bar headed by chefs Yuji Yabe and Hiroki Sodou. Sushi Ichi serves up traditional edomae sushi made from seasonal seafood and vegetables imported from Japan. You won’t get a more authentic sushi bar experience than this.

Sushi Ichi is located at #02-02 Scotts Square, 6 Scotts Road.

The world's first and only Michelin-starred ramen shop, Tsuta was first given its Michelin accolades in Tokyo in 2015. The ramen eatery has since branched out and opened its doors in Singapore at Pacific Plaza. This new local outlet serves the same menu as Tsuta’s flagship eatery in Tokyo — be sure to give the Shoyu Ramen a shot, it’s complemented with truffle oil and is one of Tsuta’s signature dishes.

Tsuta is located at #01-01 Pacific Plaza, 9 Scotts Road.

Crystal Jade Golden Palace

Crystal Jade has been a household name in Singapore for decades. 2002 saw the first fine-dining restaurant of the Singapore-based Chinese culinary group, Crystal Jade Golden Palace, which specialises in Teochew cuisine, such as Teochew braised sliced duck and braised octopus. There’s also an array of contemporary Cantonese fare, such as roasted suckling pig rolled with black truffle rice.

Crystal Jade Golden Palace is located at #05-22 The Paragon Singapore, 290 Orchard Road.

At Béni, chef Kenjiro Hashida integrates Japanese produce and French recipes to serve up contemporary French cuisine. The pocket-sized restaurant’s (it seats only 15) minimalist décor is purposefully executed so as not to detract from the food. And the food truly is the main attraction and spectacle — all guests are seated around an open kitchen space, and get to sample dishes from two set menus that change weekly.

Béni is located at #04-16B Mandarin Gallery, 333 Orchard Road.

Shisen Hanten

Shisen Hanten has been serving up Szechuan cuisine in Japan for three generations (it was founded in 1958 by the late Chen Kenmin and is now headed by his grandson Chen Kentaro). It finally makes its international debut in Singapore. Expect full-blown grandeur when you step through the doors — think chandeliers and high ceilings — to accompany your meal of Szechuan delights, such as Peking duck and stir-fried wagyu beef with green peppers.

Shisen Hanten is located at Level 35, Mandarin Orchard Singapore by Meritus, 333 Orchard Road.

Alma by Juan Amador

For a true melting pot of flavours, head to Goodwood Park Hotel, where you’ll find Alma by Juan Amador. The eponymous chef brings his signature Asian-influenced Spanish-European cuisine to a new spot in Singapore, with food prepared by local chef Haikal Johari. Experience true indulgence when you tuck into a six or eight-course degustation menu of the restaurant’s finest dishes.

Alma by Juan Amador is located at Goodwood Park Hotel Singapore, 22 Scotts Road.

The Song of India

A little further down the road from Alma is The Song of India, a restaurant nestled away in a charming black-and-white heritage bungalow. Here, Chef Manjunath Mural serves up modern Indian cuisine with a mix of traditional and innovative cooking styles. The menu features dishes from across various regions in India. Try the lucknavi gilawat kebabs (pan-seared soft lamb skewers) or tandoori lobster prepared with the chef’s signature marinade.

The Song of India is located at 33 Scotts Road.

Shinji (St Regis Hotel)

Over on Tanglin Road, at the lobby level of St Regis Hotel, is Shinji — the second outlet in Singapore of the renowned sushi bar by Japanese chef Shinji Kanesaka. Shinji is the place to be if you’re looking for an intimate sushi bar dining experience. There are just three set menus on offer in this cosy space that seats just 18 at a time.

Shinji by Kanesaka is located at The St Regis Singapore, 29 Tanglin Road.
