It is easy to get active in Singapore with its calendar of sporting events held year-round. Those keen to break a sweat and challenge themselves can sign up for a variety of endurance sports events ranging in themes and catering to various fitness levels. The best part? They will take you to all corners of Singapore for a different perspective of the cityscape while keeping you motivated to exercise.

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon

An award-winning marathon, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon offers arguably one of the most scenic running routes in Singapore. It’ll take you past various iconic landscapes in the city, such as the stunning Marina Bay area, the stately Civic District, and along the breezy East Coast. The full marathon is 42.195 kilometres-long, but participants can also opt for the half-marathon (21.1km), the 10-kilometre run, or team up with friends and run the relay ekiden (a Japanese term for long-distance relay running races). There’s also something for the little ones—young budding athletes can participate in the 600-metre kids’ dash along Singapore’s premier shopping street Orchard Road!

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon takes place in December. Sign up or find out more at the official website.

OSIM Sundown Marathon

This one’s for the insomniacs and night owls. Sleep can wait when you sign up for the Sundown Marathon, which takes place overnight and is Singapore’s first night marathon and Asia’s largest night marathon. See the city in a different light as you pass iconic locations after dark, while enjoying the cool night air. Run the full race, the half marathon, or participate in the 5-kilometre Earth Hour run.

Running not quite your scene? Fret not, this year’s edition of the Sundown Marathon features a five-night festival, where you can attend yoga classes, Zumba sessions, and shoot some hoops at the Sundown 3-on-3 Basketball Competition. Need a breather? Chill to the tunes of live band performances in between the various sporting activities.

The Sundown Marathon takes place in March. Sign up or find out more at the official website

OCBC Cycle

For those who’d rather travel on wheels, sign up for OCBC Cycle. Challenge yourself to the 42-kilometre Sportive Ride, or the 23-kilometre Straits Times Ride. If you’re feeling competitive or want to stretch yourself, sign up for the competitive OCBC Cycle Speedway Club Championship, which takes you through 10 laps over a 1-kilometre course. Cycle past iconic landmarks in Singapore such as East Coast Park, Marina Bay Cruise Centre, Harbourfront, and Singapore Sports Hub.

Fun Runs

If you love running but aren’t too keen on intense competition, sign up for any of the fun runs held in the city throughout the year. Take things easy and enjoy the experience while seeing the city. Get into character for some themed runs, such as the STAR WARS™ RUN Singapore (May 6 2017), the Colour Run, and YOLO run (October 2017), a run which encourages you to run shirtless for a good cause. For an added element of thrill and fun, sign up for The Music Run (May 6 2017), which will have you pounding the pavement to the tempo of piped-in tunes. Or, take on obstacle courses with the Spartan Race (May 2017)!

Singapore International Triathlon

Want to up the ante and challenge yourself? Sign up for the Singapore International Triathlon (10 September 2017). It will have you swimming off the shores of East Coast Park along the Singapore Straits, cycling along the scenic East Coast Park, and running along the park’s paths—all in one race. There are various distance options available for each leg of the race: the standard, the sprint, the mini, and the kids options.
