Sure, you might be well acquainted with the must-visit attractions on that travel brochure you picked up at the hotel or airport. Marina Bay Sands®, Sentosa, the Singapore Zoo… all dutifully slotted in your jam-packed itinerary. But get your phones and cameras ready and take a leaf from London cut-out artist-slash-photographer Rich McCor’s book (or, his Instagram account)––here’s where you can best capture #VisitSingapore through your camera lens. Pro tip: make sure to recharge from the inevitable travel fatigue (and also recharge any batteries) in between destinations by making a stop at the dining spots each attraction has to offer.
The Infinity Pool at Marina Bay Sands®
The shimmering border of Marina Bay Sands®’ rooftop SkyPark (free for hotel guests, ticketed entry otherwise) makes for an Instagram post backdrop that will spark some serious travel envy. The 150-metre Infinity Pool––it’s only open to hotel guests––is the world’s largest and highest outdoor elevated water body. Its true appeal, though, lies in swimming right to the edge. Have a whale of a time making some waves at this gorgeous pool, and don’t forget to look down. Hold on to your goggles, though—due to the amazing design illusion of a vanishing edge, you’ll feel as if you’re about to fall right off.
Jurong Bird Park
In the golden trio of the Singapore Zoo, the Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park, it’s no doubt that the animals are always the stars of the show. Jurong Bird Park houses over 400 species of birds, including the exotic and the endangered––pelicans, birds of paradise, flamingos and adorable waddling penguins await. Plus, there’s an impressive man-made, 30-metre tall waterfall to get your splash on, as well as a slew of bird shows to entertain the young and young at heart. Don’t be afraid to get up close and personal with lories at the Lory Loft (but not too close––watch the beaks) and snap some pictures of these feathered friends.
Gardens by the Bay
Gardens by the Bay is a treat for all the senses with its vibrant verdure––you’ll be sure to get plenty of good pictures, no filter necessary. With their towering height and unique design, the man-made Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay are an iconic fixture on the Singapore landscape. Take some great panoramic shots of the lush waterfront gardens juxtaposed against the Gardens’ futuristic, sweeping architecture. As night falls, you can also get a glimpse of the stunning spectacle that is the evening light show.
If Thailand has Phuket, and Indonesia has Bali, Singapore has Sentosa Island for all you beach bums. The tropical haven boasts 1.2 miles’ worth of sandy beaches––take your pick from Palawan, Siloso and Tanjong beaches to perfect that tan and get some awesome seaside photos. A deluge of attractions on the isle such as adventure parks, museums, luge rides and even indoor skydiving will provide hours of entertainment. You can also opt for some rest and relaxation when you hop into a hammock and bask in the sunshine with a good book or an ice-cold drink in hand––if that isn’t the perfect picture of idyll, we don’t know what is.
Marina Bay Waterfront™
Ok, so you can’t get away from that city skyline shot––especially one as dramatic as that viewed from the Marina Promenade. Visit the waterfront at sunset to watch how the Singaporean skyline transforms from day to night, maybe even up the ante by challenging yourself to a time-lapse video. Be sure to also photograph the lotus flower-shaped ArtScience Museum™, the ever-so-grand Singapore Flyer, and capture some good fortune with a photo of the Marina Bay Sands®’ three pillars that symbolise luck, prosperity and longevity in Chinese feng shui.
Have a smashing good time at the S.E.A. Aquarium™, where you can come face-to-face with a multitude of marine life and discover the many living treasures of the ocean. Peer at leopard sharks, goliath groupers, majestic mahi-mahi (dolphinfish) and manta rays as they glide serenely on by at the panoramic vista that is the Open Ocean exhibit. Don’t miss the chance to also get a photo of yourself silhouetted against the mesmerising blue glow of the aquarium.
