Need to detox from hectic mainland living? At the Southern Islands, the only thing you’ll be bothered by is a talkative cat (or ten).
Chase the thrill
Picture this — bustling city traffic, the shimmering Singapore River, and you hurtling towards it all at 120 kilometres per hour. Do just that on the GX-5 Extreme Swing, a thrill-ride-slash-swing that seats up to five and stands at a height of 50 metres. Or, be flung 60 metres skyward on the G-MAX Reverse Bungy, hitting speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.
G-MAX Reverse Bungy and GX-5 Extreme Swing rides are priced at SGD 45 per person. Opening hours: 2pm till late daily. 3E River Valley Road, Clarke Quay, Singapore 179024.
Then, experience flight in a different way at iFly — an indoor skydive simulation which gives you the thrill of free-fall conditions without actually, well, falling. Each flyer gets two skydives in the iFly wind tunnel, and the time taken for each dive is the same as falling through the air from 12,000 feet. The best part? It’s a lot more affordable (and not to mention, safe) than actually skydiving.
Skydive sessions at iFly start from $89. Opening hours: 9am-9.30pm on Mon, Tues & Thu-Sun; 11am-9.30pm on Wed. 43 Siloso Beach Walk #01-01 Singapore 099010.
For adrenaline-pumping thrill rides with a bit of movie magic, head to Universal Studios Singapore. Scream your lungs out on the 3D simulator thrill ride TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, river raft ride Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure™, or the high-speed outdoor roller coaster Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs. CYLON™, where you can choose to ride on the ‘human’ track or up the ante and go full ‘cylon’ that features alternate loops and turns.
One day passes are from SGD 74 for adults, SGD 56 for children, and SGD 36 for seniors. Operating hours: 10am till varying closing times, please visit the official website for more information. 8 Sentosa Gateway, Sentosa Island, Singapore 098269.
Calling all beach bums, surf’s up at Wave House Sentosa — on simulated waves, that is. “The Wave” is the centrepiece of Wave House, a fully-flowing FlowBarrel® sheet wave reaching a soaring 10-foot height.
Wave House is perfect if you want the surfing experience without catching the waves out at sea. The simulated wave conditions ensure that you’ll be safe from injury (but not necessarily the embarrassment) if you wipe out. For those who prefer to keep both feet on the ground, this chill beachfront oasis also boasts bars, a pool and a surf shop.
Visit Wave House Sentosa’s official website for more details. Opening hours: Mon-Sun 11am-10.30pm. 36 Siloso Beach Walk, Sentosa, Singapore 099007.
This one’s not for those with a fear of heights — the Mega Adventure Park - Singapore at Sentosa is all zip-lines and high-element activities. The main attraction at the park is the Mega Zip itself, a 450-metre zip-line which takes you from the peak of Imbiah Hill to a man-made island off Siloso Beach — zip across a jungle, a beach and the sea along the way.
Take things to another level and challenge yourself by conquering the ClimbMax, an obstacle course of aerial ropes, ladders, and flying foxes or, defy gravity at MegaBounce, a trampoline that features elastic ‘powercords’ which will have you jumping up to ten metres in the air.
Visit the Mega Adventure Park - Singapore official website for more information. Opening hours: 11am-7pm daily. Imbiah Hill Rd, Sentosa Island, Singapore 098967.
Games for the whole gang
Play ball! Paintball, that is. Gather your best pals, pick your teams, and head to Red Dynasty Paintball Park for a thrilling round of friendly (or not) fire. There are a range of packages for you to choose from, all of which are aptly named after some of the most iconic sharp-shooters out there — think James Bond (one hour of designed scenario games) or full-out Rambo (two hours and 300 paintballs, ‘nuff said).
Packages start from SGD 10.90. Sessions are by appointment only. The Cage Sports Park, 220 Turf Club Rd, Singapore 288001 and other locations.
Head to ZOVB Singapore if you fancy a thrilling tumble. For the uninitiated, ZOVB balls are essentially human-sized hamster balls — experience the rush of rolling down a hill while within the safe confines of these large inflated spheres. You can also try your hand at walking on water while in a ZOVB ball, or challenge your friends to a round of Bloop Soccer (which is regular soccer, but with all the players in ZOVB balls).
Visit the ZOVB Singapore website for more details. Opening hours: Mon-Fri 10am-6.30pm, Sat & Sun 9am-7pm. 1 Pemimpin Drive #03-02, Singapore 576151.
Need for speed
Motor heads, get ready to rev some serious engines — we’re talking about the engines of a Ferrari F430 Spider or Lamborghini Gallardo Spdyer. You’ll get to experience the thrill of driving on the official FORMULA ONE Marina Bay Street Circuit in either of these beauties with Ultimate Drive at Marina Bay Sands.
Opt for the Freeway Tour, which will see you cruising around the F1 circuit and then flying down the East Coast Parkway (ECP). Or shift into full throttle with the Ultimate Tour, which offers the same experience but with an additional half hour of driving down the ECP to give you the full Supercar experience.
Ultimate Drive starts from SGD 298. Opening hours: Sun-Thu, 10.30am-11pm, Fri-Sat 10.30am-11.30pm. L1-14, Hotel Lobby, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
