Head to these romantic spots around Singapore to enjoy some quality time with your loved one.
Singapore’s a great destination for a romantic getaway or honeymoon, and with some insider knowledge, you can plan a lovely vacation for two without burning a hole in your pocket. We suss out the most wallet-friendly date ideas for the savings-savvy traveller.
For that scenic getaway
Nature-lovers, how about some bird-watching at Coney Island Park? The park’s many different habitats are home to an expansive range of stunning flora and fauna, including an impressive diversity of bird species. If you’re the adventurous sort, go for a trek or take on the park’s cycling trails. You can rent a bike from GoCycling at Punggol Jetty (SGD 8 for 2 hours).
Get to Coney Island Park by taking bus 84 from Punggol Bus Interchange to Punggol Point Park/Punggol Settlement. Walk about 500m east along the Punggol Promenade Nature Walk to get to Coney Island West Entrance. The park is open from 7am-7pm daily.
You could also head to the Marina Barrage. Built across the Marina Channel, the Marina Barrage creates Singapore’s 15th reservoir. While a barrage may not sound exactly like a hotspot for a romantic date, its rooftop boasts a lovely open-air green space that’s perfect for an afternoon date. Enjoy kite-flying on the lush, open green, followed by a picnic. The cherry on top: all this comes with a spectacular view of the Marina Bay and Singapore skyline.
Marina Barrage is located at 8 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore 018951. Open 24 hours daily.
Enriching city experiences
Take a scenic stroll on the waterfront at Marina Bay, and marvel at the city lights and stunning architecture of the Marina Bay Sands — it’s particularly mesmerising after dusk. Stay along the Marina Bay waterfront for Wonder Full, Southeast Asia’s largest light and water spectacular. The 13-minute show combines music, electric lights and laser effects to create an audio-visual extravaganza. It’s free, too!
Catch Wonder Full at the Event Plaza at the Marina Bay Promenade. Showtimes are Sun-Thu 8pm and 9.30pm, Fri & Sat 8pm, 9.30pm and 11pm.
For a romantic date straight out of the movies, head to the Science Centre for a spot of stargazing at the Observatory Deck. You can also check out all the interesting exhibits at the Science Centre, from fire tornados to electrifying Tesla coils. Get the whole package with more bang for your buck, as entry to the Science Centre starts at just SGD 6 per adult.
Science Centre Singapore is located at 15 Science Centre Road, Singapore 609081. 10am-6pm daily.
Indulge your inner culture vulture at Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. To keep it wallet-friendly, attend one of the free concerts and art performances at the concourse or outdoor theatre (these usually take place in the evening at around 7 to 8pm). If you’re out and about on a Sunday, be sure to catch Beautiful Sundays — homegrown musicians perform at this weekly showcase, typically from 3 to 4pm. Admission’s free!
Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is located at 1 Esplanade Drive, Singapore 038981.
Conventional date ideas with a twist
For an unconventional movie date with a wave of nostalgia, head to The Projector, an independent cinema and creative space that sits on the 5th floor of what used to be the historic Golden Theatre. The place is complete with a bar (bar snacks and drinks are cheap here — you can get a good glass of wine for just SGD 7), plenty of Instagram-worthy spots, and the coolest crowd of cinephiles in the city. Pro tip: there’s plenty of affordable good food on other floors of Golden Mile Tower, too.
The Projector is located at 6001 Beach Road, #05-00, Golden Mile Tower, Singapore 199589.
Hide out from the bustle of the city and have a romantic day in the heartlands, at Kombi Rocks. The retro diner serves up sharing plates that are delicious and affordable. You can also admire a bevy of preserved vintage automobiles and vintage knick-knacks – Instagram-worthy, for sure!
Kombi Rocks is located at 66 Yio Chu Kang Road, Singapore 545568. 12-11pm daily.
