As you wander along this trail, don't be surprised if you stumble upon abandoned beach defences, derelict pillboxes, old gun emplacements and secret underground tunnels. You may even chance upon the famous "Guns of Singapore" which protected Singapore at strategic locations across the island.

This trail is best done on foot and takes you through Singapore's Civic District. Set against Singapore's modern skyline, you will weave through grand judicial monuments such as City Hall, the Supreme Court and Parliament House. Next to these monuments stand the memorials which remember heroes, rebels, leaders and civilians.

During World War II, as many as 50,000 British and Australian soldiers and 3,500 civilians were incarcerated at the infamous Changi Prisoner-of-War Camps. You will discover memorial plaques, old barracks and the Changi Chapel and Museum as marks of times past.

It is in this part of Singapore that the first battles against the Japanese were fought and lost. Although the dense jungles have now been replaced by high-rise residential apartments, one can still find signs of battle in this northern part of the island. It is also in this part of Singapore that you will find the resting grounds of Allied and Japanese soldiers.

Behind the cosmopolitan modernity of bustling Singapore, lies a rich and poignant past. We invite you to venture back in time, to discover surprising sites and structures and unimaginable ruins and relics from the war years scattered across the island. Each one tells its own captivating story, yet weaved together, they form a colourful and intricate tapestry of what Singapore has become today.
